Remembrance & Honor

Our resident founders: Mrs. Rogerline Nicholson, Mrs. Violet Collins and Mr. Richard Greene served as representatives on the E/BFSC Membership and later on the Board of Directors. Throughout their years of involvement they attended numerous planning meetings and assisted the Collaborative in conducting the community needs assessment, which guided our development.

Although each of these individuals suffered from ongoing health problems during that period and in spite of their many community commitments, they worked tirelessly to advocate for their community neighbors and support the work of the Collaborative. They are truly missed, but their legacy lives on in the families, in the community they loved, in the resident leaders they nurtured, and in the mission of the Collaborative that they helped to develop.  We remember and honor them for:

  • their commitment to joining E/BFSC to educate and build the capacity of the community to support children and families in the neighborhoods in which they lived;
  • serving as officers and founders of the Edgewood Terrace Community Council which brought together resident leaders and providers in the Edgewood Community during the exciting and challenging redevelopment of Edgewood Terrace;
  • serving as visionary leaders and officers of the Resident Associations in their respective complexes;

In perpetual memory of these, our resident founders, the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative established awards in their names beginning in 2005.  The awards reflect the Collaborative’s original mission statement which they helped to shape.  The awards are known as:

The Richard Green Caring for Children Award

The Violet Collins Strengthening Families Award

The Rogerline Nicholson Building Stronger Communities Award

Each year these awards are presented to an individual or organization which has significantly advanced the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative mission and in so doing has honored the memory of our resident founders.  The recipients have been:
